Attention 4th and 5th Grade Parents: The Osborn Garden Club Needs Super Gardeners!
The Osborn School Garden Club is gearing up for Spring! The Club will now operate as an independent club with additional sessions so that the children will have more time to spend in the garden, learning and reaping the benefits of the full Spring season of gardening.
Please see the attached flyer with all the details and consider signing your child up. Space is limited!

Osborn School Garden Club – Spring 2016
The Osborn School Garden Club includes a wide range of unique, engaging activities designed to:
• promote horticulture and a love of gardening
• encourage conservation, sustainability and environmental stewardship
• enrich the lives of students
• instill teamwork and cooperation
• benefit from hands-on learning in the outdoor environment
• sow a sense of school pride through beautification
Garden-based, hands-on activities may include:
• prepping garden beds for planting
• direct seeding and planting transplants
• building trellises
• mulching, composting, grooming
• harvesting, preparing and tasting the fruits/vegetables grown
Garden-based lessons on topics such as:
• garden tools
• measuring and spacing
• planning a garden bed
• integrated pest management
• garden pests and beneficial insects
• organic gardening techniques
• medicinal herbs
• writing and fine art in the garden
• healthy recipes
The Osborn School Garden Club will meet for ten (10) Fridays during lunch/recess including: April 1, April 8, April 15, (no session April 22), April 29, May 6, May 13, May 20, (no session ), June 3, June 10, and June 17. If there is inclement weather, a determination with Mrs. Garcia and/or Mr. Walley will be made and the Club will meet indoors. If the Club needs to be cancelled on a particular week, a make-up session will be offered.
Eligibility and Cost
The Osborn School Garden Club will be offered to a maximum of 10 fourth (4th) graders AND 10 fifth (5th) graders OR a total of 20 students. The cost for the 10 sessions is $200. Checks and cash should be made to PTO and can be left at the collection box at front desk.
